Fish Pellet Dispenser

Design and Development of Fish Pellet Dispenser

Final Design

Project Description:

  • This project is a collaboration with the Borneo Marine Research Institute.
  • Main objective is to train saltwater fishes such as groupers while studying the behavior of the fish.
  • The solution to this requirement is an automated fish feeder system which is triggered by fish activity.
  • Our design is based on an infrared sensor, feeder and a control unit.

Milestone:

  1. Preliminary Design/Research – This step involves testing the main components in a controlled environment. Further decisions regarding the selection of the type sensor can be made.
  2. Design and Testing –Ā This stage covers the design of the basic structure. Various tests are conducted with the testing unit.
  3. Fabrication – With all limitations and the desired specifications considered, a PCB board, a plastic enclosure and an aluminium structure is combined to form the final design.

Front Panel

Front Panel

The front panel of the enclosure is made of ABS material and it was modified according to our needs. A 7-segment display is used to show feeding information and configuration. The enclosure is also able to withstand splashes and protect the PCB from high humidity levels.

The interior

The interior of the enclosure – Heat sink, PCB board mounting, Wiring

Aluminium Structure – Motor coupling, Frame structure, Pellet chamber (clockwise)
